Coleus (Coleus forskohlii), commonly known as Indian Coleus, is a perennial herb native to tropical regions of Asia, particularly India, Nepal, and Thailand. It belongs to the mint family and has been used as a health tonic in Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years.
Coleus is traditionally used for respiratory conditions, cardiovascular health, digestive disorders, and to promote urinary health. It's also applied topically to soothe irritated skin and promote healing.
Coleus contains a potent diterpene compound called forskolin that's involved in cellular messaging and has many studied properties. Besides forskolin, Coleus forskohlii contains other diterpenes, flavonoids, alkaloids, triterpenoids, and essential oils. Coleus has been found to help regulate hormone and enzyme activity and is known to be involved in over 35 biological processes.
